Kaleidoscope Book Review

Kaleidoscope Seeing God's Wit and Wisdom in a Whole New Light
Written by Patsy Clairmont

I grew up in a very religious family. My father raised my brothers and I by the word of the Bible. My father was always very pushy and overbearing. He has definitely calmed down over the years but still reminds me to read the book of Proverbs everyday. It seems like I am always reading the same Proverb a 2nd, sometimes 3rd time to actually interpret the verse. After over 20 years of reading the same thing, day after day, it's nice to find this enlightening take on the book of Proverbs.

I really enjoyed Patsy's style of writing. It was as if she were writing exactly how she speaks. The chapters in Kaleidoscope are short and sweet. I was immediately interested in the authors, quick wit. Patsy Clairmont shares her life experiences while offering advice on how to handle the stress of everyday life.

At the end of each chapter, there is a "Bit's and Pieces" section. Patsy shares several questions to help you strive to live a much fuller and happier life. I am constantly overwhelmed with anxiety and found the "Bit's and Pieces" in chapter 20 to be particularly helpful. Here is an example of the "Bits and Pieces" questions from chapter 20:

1. Describe Anxiety
2. In what ways are you given to exaggeration?
3. What habits have you successfully broken?
4. What excuses have you made for unhealthy habits?
5. What lifestyle changes would it help you to make?
6. What emotional indulgences do you participate in?
7. Do you think you are depressed? Do others?
8. What condition is your thought life in?
9. Who do you take notes on because they seem to live life well?
10. When was the last time you aired your heart?

Kaleidoscope was very enriching and I feel I stumbled across this particular book for a reason. I wish I would have been given this book as a teenager, as I feel it would have helped my life in so many ways during such a rough period in my life. This book would be a great gift for any teenage girl or woman.
