Egg Recall Linked To Salmonella – Expanded Recall

Wright County Egg of Iowa, is voluntarily recalling more than 228 million eggs due to a  recent salmonella outbreak. The eggs were packed between May 16th and August 13th and have been distributed nationwide.

The egg brands affected by the recall include: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms, and Kemps.

The salmonella contaminated eggshells are packed in 6 ct, 12 ct, and 18 ct cartons with Julian dates ranging from 136 to 229 and plant numbers 1026, 1942, 1413 and 1946.  Dates and codes can be found stamped on the end of the egg carton.  The plant number begins with the letter P and then the number.  The Julian date follows the plant number, for example:  P-1946 223.

If you have a carton(s) of eggs matching the number above:

Return the eggs in the original carton to the store where they were purchased from for a full refund.

Eggs affected by the expanded recall were distributed to food wholesalers, distribution centers, foodservice companies and limited retail outlets in California, Arizona, Missouri, Minnesota, Texas, Georgia, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, Iowa, Illinois, Utah, Nebraska, Arkansas, Wisconsin and Oklahoma. These companies distribute nationwide.

While this recall represents less than 1 percent of all eggs produced in the US, as always recommended by the Egg Safety Center and FDA, raw eggs should be handled and cooked properly with the egg yolks and whites cooked firm. Other egg brands that are not specifically in the recall list are not affected and should be safe to eat. Liquid, frozen, or dried egg products, because they are pasteurized, also are not affected by the recall and should be safe.

  1. I always wonder and hope that everyone who needs to will see this type of information before they use the product.

  2. I hope so as well. A friend of mine just finished a carton of eggs without ever hearing about the recall.
