Horizon Organic Chocolate Milk with DHA Omega-3

I have a 21 month old son and as his mother, I know the important role that calcium plays in his diet. At around 16 months, my son lost all interest in drinking milk and would rather drink nothing at all then plain milk. So in order to provide him with the calcium that growing babies need, I started giving him Hershey's Chocolate Milk. I hated giving it to him knowing that it is full of sugar, calories, carbohydrates not to mention high fructose corn syrup but I didn't know how else to supplement the calcium in his diet.

I was recently offered the chance to review Horizon Organic Chocolate Milk with DHA Omega-3. I had never tried an Organic product so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity. The first thing I noticed about this milk is "DHA". DHA? I knew this was essential for expecting women and infants, but I had no idea this is something my son still needed. Here are a few facts I recently learned about DHA:

• DHA has been shown to help support heart health, eye health and brain function.

• DHA provides a nutritional boost for your child's growing mind and body. Children's brains grow incredibly fast. Did you know their little brains nearly quadruples in the first five years of life.

• DHA is a key structural component of the brain, yet many young children don't get their recommended daily amount of DHA as it is found in a limited number of food sources. (mostly fatty fish)

My Review

Like my son, I love chocolate milk! I will admit, I was just a little afraid of trying this milk. I thought because it is organic, the taste would be bitter and un-sweet. I was pleasantly surprised. The color is a lighter shade then when we use Hershey's but the taste is just as good, if not better. There was no bitterness and it was sweet enough to satisfy my craving. As for my son, he couldn't taste a difference in the flavor. After finishing his Horizon Organic Chocolate Milk with DHA Omega-3, his exact words were " More Please".

After becoming more educated with DHA, I now know my son needs more than just calcium for his growing body. And since I also know DHA is important for adults, I won't feel so guity indulging in a glass every now & then. This is definitely going on our weekly shopping list.
